We love a good culinary experience. Here's our evolving list of what we discover to eat in the Catskills. Places can fill up pretty fast. Make a reservation if you are short on time. Otherwise eating later often provides better chances of getting a table.
Peekamoose https://peekamooserestaurant.com/ - Just a few minutes from the entrance to Belleayre Skiing. This Catskills staple does a brisk business with divine dishes and a rustic atmosphere. The space is kid-friendly with an activity area for a long wait. Wrap up your meal roasting a few marshmallows by the fire outside. The restaurant has larger tables in more private areas - perhaps for a bachelorette dinner or a birthday? Definitely stop in at the bar to try the cocktails; and the bread is a must! Enjoy the restaurant menu here too.
The Pines https://catskillpines.com/ - A rocking place for a great meal. They often have live music or Karaoke in the evenings. Dinner is fantastic but return in the morning for some coffee and muffins.
Maeve's Place https://maevesplace.com/ - delish pastries for a special cause.
Sweet Sue's https://www.sweetsuesphoenicia.com/ IG sweetsuesphoenicia Don't walk ... Run! Just run to Sweet Sue's! Can't say enough good things about it!
Phoenicia Diner https://www.phoeniciadiner.com/ - A staple in the Catskills. Expect a crowd and a wait in the mornings. It's worth it however. Their brioche french toast is to die for.
Prospect at Scribner's Lodge http://www.scribnersprospect.com/ - The Hunter Mountain views! This is one of our faves, for sure. Local cuisine and special sips.
Fellow Mountain Cafe https://www.fellowmountaincafe.com/ - Two words: Cinnamon. Bun. OMG... Grab a latte too on your way to the slopes of Hunter Mountain, and you're set.
Brios http://brios.net/ - Pizzeria attached to Sports bar and Mexican restaurant. Don't be fooled by the over offerings. During winter months the variety can be a dietary savior. Friendly atmosphere and family-oriented. Rarely a wait here and access to multiple menus.
Sportsman's Alamo Cantina http://alamocantina.com/ - This sports bar and Mexican restaurant is attached to Brio's Pizzeria. They know how to make great Tex-mex or a burger with a beer. They are a hub for the local area and know the current activities if you need inside information on where to go and what to do.
Emmerson's Woodnotes Grille https://emersonresort.com/woodnotes-grille/ - A more high-end dining experience. Great for a special evening.
The Clubhouse at Shandaken Inn https://www.shandakeninn.com/theclubhouse/ - Wednesdays are a must for their gourmet burgers and locally brewed beers.
Woodstock Brewing https://www.drinkwoodstock.com/ - Try some of the local brews here. Serving some bar food but, let's face it, you're there for the hops.
Westkill Brewing https://www.westkillbrewing.com/ - Local beers galore. Enjoy what these local brewmasters have on tap.
Blue Mountain Bistro https://www.bluemountainbistro.com/ - If you are approaching from I-87, stop here for a bite to go. This sandwich shop has a little bit of everything for everyone. Don't let the exterior fool you. The food is worth it.
The Phoenician Steakhouse http://thephoeniciansteakhouse.com/ - Having been to some of the best steak restaurants in Manhattan, we were skeptical. And then pleasantly surprised! Definitely one of the more pricey restaurants so perhaps a good choice for a celebration or an anniversary. Deliciously tasty!
Shindig http://www.woodstockshindig.com - As their homepage says, this is a cute, li'l shindig on the main thoroughfare of Woodstock, with seasonal pancakes, craft, and local beers and Soju cocktails, along with the freshest salads and burgers to sink your teeth into. Be sure to try there every-changing pastries, pies and bread puddings. Many on the Shindig team - or Shindiggers, as they're called - have been with the restaurant since it's inception - the love they feel for it is reflected in the deliciousness.
